    Contentment

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.“ I Timothy 6:6 In the past several years, God has been teaching me the importance of being content. It has not been an easy lesson but it is one I need in order to be victorious in this life. I’m always amazed at God’s ability to add by subtracting. Through the loss of my full-time income, I have gained and am currently gaining more than I ever imagined. I am gaining virtues that cannot be purchased with money yet they are more precious than gold. One of which, is contentment. The bible states, “Godliness with contentment is great gain for we brought nothing…

    Will You be Made Whole?

“When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?” –John 5:6 While reflecting on this passage of scripture, I thought of how holistic God is in shaping our lives and building His character in us. I noticed, Jesus did not ask this man, who had been bed ridden with sickness for thirty-eight years, if he wanted to  have it all together.  He only asked if he wanted to be made whole.  According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word whole means complete or full: not lacking or leaving out any part; free of…

    Seasons

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” Ecclesiastes 3:1 Today is officially the first day of fall. I’m always so excited when this time of year rolls around. The air is crisp and the leaves are turning into beautiful shades of orange, yellow, brown and red. Just thinking of Thanksgiving and Christmas makes my heart sing. I wish Fall lasted all year! Of course, I know this is not possible. God designed earth to have four seasons; winter, spring, summer and fall.  The earth needs each season to function properly. It needs cold winters to control the bug population, the rain of…

    Me Time

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  I Peter 5:7 It’s no secret that motherhood is one of the hardest, yet most rewarding, jobs ever. Between taking care of our husbands and children, cooking, cleaning and doing the laundry, it is easy to neglect ourselves. In fact, many mothers find it extremely difficult to make time for themselves. Personally, this has been a huge struggle for me. There were times during my first couple of years as a mother, I neglected myself because I thought that was what good mothers did.  I felt my sole purpose as a wife and mom was to please my husband…

    Staring into a Mirror

If a picture can say a thousand words then this one says it all. It is blatantly obvious that my son is unhappy in this photo. Unfortunately, this is one of the many phases he is going through right now.  It’s called “jealousy.” And it is all part of growing up. I’m sure it does not come as a surprise to most seasoned mommies that children can be extremely jealous at times, specifically of their siblings. It seems as if my oldest two children are in constant competition with each other. Last Friday, after school, as soon as my daughter got into the car, she excitedly told me she had…

    The Voice of Wisdom

“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks” Proverbs 1:20-21 As I was pondering the subject matter for my first blog entry, I began to think of the many times wisdom had spoken to me, specifically regarding the importance of being a godly wife and mother. Often, I either refused to listen or didn’t recognize her voice. There’s an old saying, “Hind sight is always 20/20.” Sometimes that holds true and sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t know about you but I could have avoided plenty of…
