Tips for Teaching Your Child to Pray

When I was a child, I thought prayer was so boring. Like many today, I did not want to pray unless I was in trouble or I wanted something from God. I grew up with a single mother who was and still is a devout Christian. She had a very strong prayer life. It was common for my siblings and I to find my mom on her knees in prayer during early mornings or late nights. I distinctly remember waking up in the middle of the night to my mother standing over me, anointing my head with oil and praying in the Holy Ghost. In addition to attending prayer meetings…

    I’m Back…..

Happy New Year!!!!! It seems like forever since my last post. I’ve missed interacting with you guys so much. If any of you are wondering where I’ve been or what I’ve been doing then wonder no longer! For the past year, I have been reflecting and critically thinking about the direction in which I want to go with my blog and social media accounts. I had to take a break and ask myself, “Did I bite off more than I can chew, is it worth it, do I really want to open myself up to the scrutiny that comes with blogging and social media; what is my true goal and…

    Balancing vs. Prioritizing Life

As a mother, I am realizing the importance of prioritizing. According to Webster’s dictionary, the word prioritize means to organize (things) so that the most important thing is done or dealt with first.  Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also,” Matthew 6:33 AMP. I’ve often heard people make statements such as, “I’m trying to find a way to balance it all.” The word balance suggests that everything is of equal importance. While, I…

    Supermom: Relying on God’s Stength

Photo Credit: incourage.me I’ll be the first to tell you, I am so guilty of trying to do it all. Often, I stretch myself very thin just because I want to do everything just right. I am always multitasking. On any given day, I could be washing clothes, lesson planning, preparing dinner and cleaning the house; all while helping my kiddos with their homework. Sometimes, I feel as if I should be wearing a supermom cape. I think all moms have felt this way, at some point in time. While caring for our families, we must remember to make time to properly care for ourselves. Today, I would like to…

    Secrets Savored Weeks 1 & 2 : My Experience

A few weeks ago, I posted an entry entitled, “Moms Need Moms,” in which I expressed the need to connect with other christian moms.  Since making that post, I have actually enrolled in a mentoring class, offered at a local church in my area. It is called “Secrets Savored.” It is an eight week program, built around Titus 2:4-5, in which older christian mothers mentor younger mothers, through practical homemaking lessons and spiritual insights. It’s like a biblical home economics class. The author of the curriculum/book and founder of the program is Dianne Lynn Dougharty, (BTW: I’ve met her. She’s so kind and she truly has a passion for mentoring…

    Moms Need Moms

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves too much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” Titus 2: 3-5 Have you ever wished there was a class for mothers?  Do you or have you ever felt alone at any point in time while mothering your children? Do you sometimes wish you had someone who would not judge you for feeling overwhelmed or maybe just a mommy circle…

    Boo Hoo and Woo Hoo!!!!

I can hardly believe the time has come for my precious little boy, Matt, to start kindergarten. How I’ve longed for this day to arrive.  Yet, I am not sure I am quite ready for it. Making it to this point has truly been a tremendous journey. I am blessed to have been there to experience all of the wonderful milestones he  has reached thus far.   It seems as though it was yesterday that I was giving birth to my 7.10 pound baby boy. I still remember the sweet smell of his breath and the cute little look on his adorable face when he arrived. We were so happy…

    New Year New Goals

And the Lord answered me, and said, “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it.” Habakkuk 2:2 Happy New Year! I hope you guys enjoyed spending time with your families and friends over the holidays. I certainly did and I have the extra pounds to prove it. Ha! We made plenty of great memories, including a Christmas trip to Walt Disney World, which my family and I absolutely loved. I will be posting a blog entry very soon about our experience. There is always something about the New Year everyone loves. Personally, I think it’s because everyone views it as a…

    Keeping a Grateful Heart

It’s been a while since my last post. I have found myself extremely busy lately preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas, along with fulfilling my regular wifely and motherly duties. I’ve missed interacting with you all so much. I’ve been pondering, the subject matter for this blog entry for quite some time. What better time than now to write about keeping a grateful heart, especially since Thanksgiving is right around the corner? Everyday should be a day of thanksgiving in the lives of Christians. We should be thankful for everything (both big and small) God does in our lives. When we feel the desire to complain, we need only to…

    Will You be Made Whole?

“When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?” –John 5:6 While reflecting on this passage of scripture, I thought of how holistic God is in shaping our lives and building His character in us. I noticed, Jesus did not ask this man, who had been bed ridden with sickness for thirty-eight years, if he wanted to  have it all together.  He only asked if he wanted to be made whole.  According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word whole means complete or full: not lacking or leaving out any part; free of…
